Capital City Church (formally First Baptist Church) of Cheyenne was actually indeed the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne! Our original Articles are signed by Francis E. Warren, who was awarded the Medal of Honor after the American Civil War. He would become Wyoming’s first Governor and go on to serve in the U.S. Senate. Our Articles predate Wyoming’s statehood and are filed as in the Territory of Wyoming, 1877, 13 years before Wyoming became a state.

This historic church has much water under its bridge, including two other building locations. Our current location, 1800 E. Pershing, was completed and occupied in 1956. The Emmerson Hall addition added administrative offices and a gym in 1977.

In 2017, the church made a significant decision to become unaffiliated, marking a new chapter in the church's longstanding history with the Rocky Mountain American Baptist Convention. In 2019, the newly independent church rewrote its doctrinal statement and bylaws, becoming an elder-led, deacon-served, and congregationally affirmed body of believers.
